Once he was still, they had me leave. It was a good thing that Stacey did not have to see all that.
Then, we waited. The audiologist came down and talked to us, as did the ENT. The tubes went in well, and the hearing test Jacob had went well. The hearing test is an ABR test, which is the same little test they do on newborns where they electrically stimulate parts of the brain to see what happens. But, when you are 18 months, you move more, so being gassed helps. He is a bit deficient in the hearing area, but not bad enough to warrant hearing aids, so, of the three oldest in our family, Jacob hears best.
After a little bit longer, they led us up to the recovery room where Jacob was sound asleep. Since he had not had a nap, he was still out. I asked the nurse that was there how we know if he is just tired, and he said we don't. So, we woke Jacob up. It was so weird to see him in a little gown, with an IV, on a huge hospital bed. So sad, and so cute at the same time.

Isn't it the weirdest thing to see someone so small slowly get put under. Evelyn had to have a sedated Electro-cardio-graham when she turned one. It was going to last like 45 minutes, so they put her under. They let me hold her while they put the sleepy medicine in her IV. It was the weirdest thing to hold her and feel her go totally limp and then set her down and watch them do the echo (basically and ultrasound on the chest) for 45 minutes while she just laid there. She was so little and so helpless.
I'm so glad to hear that Jacob survived. Has he been having problems with ear infections? Cute little guy and I love his smile in his hair cut picture.
glad to see tip-top was there to be a comforting friend!
Trina, he's only had a couple ear infections but this procedure was more to help drain some fluid so they could determine the extent of his hearing loss.
And Erin, I posted this for Jeff and noticed how prominent a spot Tip Top had in the pictures we took. Basically every time Jacob has had to spend time in the hospital, Tip Top has been there with him. All 2 times! He really loves that little giraffe, who is currently sitting in the laundry room after having been given a good washing yesterday. :)
